Working parents can also claim child sickness benefit if their child has to be in quarantine due to corona.

How long does the current regulation apply?

Corona is testing the patience of many mothers and fathers.

Who takes care of the children when the day care center is closed or the children have to be in quarantine as contact persons?

For example, there are so-called

children's

sick days to support working parents .

For example, working parents were able to use the children's sick days last year to look after children during the Corona pandemic*.

The special regulation on child sickness benefit decided for 2021 was initially continued until March 19, 2022.

At the time, some parents were wondering how things should continue after that.

According to a report by

BR.de

(as of March 30), parents with statutory health insurance can

apply for

up to 30 children’s sick days per child and adult and be

As a rule, this is 90 percent of the net wages lost due to the child's illness, the report goes on to say.

Single parents are even entitled to 60 days.

How long does the corona-related regulation apply so far?

As the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs informed on its website on March 18, the following regulation will apply at least until late summer 2022: "

Up to and including September 23, 2022, parents can also claim child sickness benefit if their child is not ill but is cared for at home got to

, because a childcare facility (daycare center, after-school care center or daycare center), school or facility for people with disabilities is closed or has restricted access.” That means: “A childcare facility or school is officially closed due to the pandemic, access to the facility or times are restricted or the obligation to attend classes has been suspended (e.g. for homeschooling or distance learning). ”This also applies “if a child is prohibited from attending a childcare facility or school due to a quick test result,” it says there.

"Child sickness benefit can also be applied for if the child does not visit a facility on the recommendation of the authorities."

Are you entitled to child sickness benefit?

According to the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, parents with statutory health insurance can apply for child sickness benefit on 30 working days in 2022, the German Press Agency (dpa, as of January 31) reported accordingly.

However, the prerequisite is that

the child is also legally insured and not older than 12 years old

.

If there are several children, each parent is entitled to no more than 65 working days, for single parents no more than 130 working days.

The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs also provides more information on the

children's sick days
