The costs for the chimney sweep can also be claimed for tax purposes like other craft work.

Since the work that the

chimney sweeper

does in your house is part of the

craftsman

's services, you can be tax deductible according to

a report by the

United Income Tax Aid (VLH

)

.

Here you can find out what you need to bear in mind if you want to claim the invoices from the chimney sweep or chimney sweep – as the man who is said to bring luck is also known – for tax purposes.

Chimney sweeper is a craftsman - and therefore tax deductible

According to the report, the following chimney sweep

services

are included and can therefore be deducted from the tax:

  • sweeping the chimney

  • Maintenance work

  • verification or measurement work

  • legionella tests

  • fireplace show

That wasn't always the case:

According to the VLH ,

until 2015

only chimney sweeps and maintenance and repair work could be

entered in the tax return for the tax office and thus deducted from the tax.

Since a court ruling by the Federal Fiscal Court of November 6th, 2014, measuring and inspection services can also be claimed for tax purposes.

Thus, the activities of the chimney sweep around the heating, fireplace and stove are considered a craftsman's service.

How can I deduct the costs for the chimney sweep from my taxes?

If you want to deduct the costs for the chimney sweep from your taxes, there are a few things to consider:

  • According to the report, you can deduct

20 percent of the travel, labour, machine, disposal and consumable costs

(e.g. cleaning agents) from your taxes, but

a maximum of 1,200 euros per year for all tradesman services

    .

  • According to the VLH,

    material costs

    cannot be

claimed for tax purposes and should therefore be listed separately.

  • Do not pay in cash but by

    bank transfer

    .

  • According to the report, the services of the chimney sweep must be provided

    in your household

    and may

    not

have been carried out as part of a

    new building

    .

  • It is clear that tradesman services can be deducted from tax.

But what about homeschooling – is there anything tax deductible?

As a tenant, you can also deduct chimney sweep costs from your taxes

Not only those who live in their own homes can claim the costs for the chimney sweep for tax purposes.

    According to the VLH,

    as a

tenant you can also enter the

    costs

for the chimney sweep, which are stated in your utility bill, in your tax return and deduct them from your taxes.

To do this, the various items in the ancillary cost statement must be shown separately.
