Actress Ophelia Strael passed away last week after a long battle with the cancer she contracted, it was reported today (Tuesday).
Strael has had a long acting career in theater and film, but she is known to many in Israel mainly because of her role as the final stella from the film "Lemon Popsicle", for which she received the "Violin of David" award in 1979.
She was 81 at the time of her death.
Strahl, a native of Romania, began playing in her teens before immigrating to Israel in 1964.
She starred in plays at the Habima Theater, including "Anne Frank", "The Wizard of Lublin" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream", and later also starred in movies such as "The Angel Was a Devil", "The Plumber", "A Mistake in Number" and as mentioned - " Lemon Popsicle. "
In interviews later in life she admitted that she did not regret the role she played in the film, but found that he limited her in terms of the roles to which she was cast later.
For television viewers in Israel, she is also remembered as the mother of Zvika Hadar in the series "Shemesh".
