There are about ten of them, a little stressed, sitting on their chairs in what looks like a classroom in the rectorate in the 19th arrondissement of Paris.
These children are Ukrainians.
They have just arrived in France.
For their assignment to a French school, these students must pass a test.
“It is above all the math test that is important, because it allows them to determine their level, explains Ewelina Kallaur, project manager at CASNAV.
Moreover, the pupils who arrive from Ukraine have a very good level in mathematics”.

Before joining a reception class, these young refugees therefore pass a test in this center called CASNAV: the Academic Center for the education of newly arrived allophone children and children from itinerant families and travellers.
They will then be directed to schools.
It is very difficult for these young teenagers who arrive leaving ruins behind them, says Nadine Croguennec, coordinator of CASNAV, with emotion.

Despite the war, some Ukrainian students were able to follow some distance learning courses with their teachers who remained in Ukraine.
"It's complicated because there are classes canceled because of the bombardments," explains Olena's aunt.
But it's very brave of them to try to continue the lessons”.
