"Abstention is the symptom of an illness, non-participation in public life: it must be studied to seek solutions". (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 14 - "Abstentionism is the symptom of an illness, non-participation in public life: it must be studied to seek solutions".

This was underlined by the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Federico D'Incà, on the occasion of the presentation of the White Paper drawn up by the expert commission, set up by the same minister in December, to develop proposals, including regulations, and initiatives to encourage citizens' participation in the vote.

D'Incà noted that over the years there has been "an ever greater reduction in participation: 92% of Italians voted in the 1948 policies, while in 2018 just under 73%. In the European elections it went from 86% in 1979 to 56, 1% in 2019. It is a continuously decreasing trend - he added -, and at the last administrative offices, between September and October, 54% voted, while in the supplementary in January, over 88% did not vote at the Rome 1 college, which yet it is close to the institutions ".
