(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 15 - L'Envol, the new feature film by director Pietro Marcello will be presented as an opening film at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight which for this edition will take place from 18 to 27 May 2022.
Freely inspired by Le vele scarlatte by Aleksandr Grin, a Russian pacifist writer of the twentieth century, the film by Pietro Marcello, the first made in France, is a popular, musical and historical tale, bordering on magical realism.
The cast is made up of Juliette Jouan, a young actress making her film debut, Raphaël Thierry, Louis Garrel, NoémieLvovsky, Ernst Umhauer, François Négret, Yolande Moreau.
The film is produced by CG Cinema, Avventurosa with Rai Cinema, TheMatch Factory and ARTE France Cinéma, and is made with the contribution and sponsorship of the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual - Ministry of Culture.
The film will be distributed in Italy by 01 Distribution.
The screenplay was written by Pietro Marcello and MaurizioBraucci with Maude Ameline and with the participation of GenevièveBrisac.
For the shooting Pietro Marcello collaborated with a Franco-Italian group: Marco Graziaplena for photography, Pascaline Chavane for costumes, Christian Marti for scenography, Carole La Page for editing and Oscar winner Gabriel Yared for music.
The story is set in the north of France: Juliette, a young orphan from her mother, lives with her father, Raphaël, a soldier who survived the First World War.
Passionate about music and singing, Juliette has a lonely spirit.
One day, along the bank of a river, she meets a sorceress who predicts that scarlet skies will come to take her away from her village.
Juliette will never stop believing in prophecy.
The selection of the Quinzaine will be announced on April 19 by the artistic director Paolo Moretti.
