100, 150 or more?

Anyone who is invited to a wedding often wonders how much money is appropriate as a wedding present.

Here are a few suggestions.

You've been invited to a wedding - but don't know how much money to give the newlyweds?

After all, you don't want to look like a penny pincher - but you also don't want to put too much money in the envelope.

How high the gift of money for the wedding is depends on how close your relationship with the bride and groom is.

So how much do I give - as a friend, work colleague or relative?

Money gift for wedding: Give as much as the guest costs himself

The amount of the cash gift depends on various factors: the degree of

relationship, the financial resources and the background of this special occasion

.

After all, it is based on a long tradition that wedding couples want money for the honeymoon and thus the honeymoon itself from the guests.

The bridal couple often wants money as a gift in order to cover the costs of the wedding - and to refinance the celebration of their dreams, so to speak.

But even if they don't do anything, most of the guests give them cash.

But vouchers and money for the honeymoon are also very popular.

Many bridal couples also usually receive household goods and home textiles to start their life together.

You can therefore follow an old guiding principle:

give as much as you drink or eat at the wedding celebration

and consider what (high) food prices are paid in the typical wedding locations.

If the scope of the wedding is smaller - as is currently the case during the Corona crisis - consider how much you would still like to give.

And what you yourself would be happy about instead of the newlyweds and what you would consider appropriate.

Adapt wedding gift to financial situation

But the question of how much money you give is also largely dependent on your financial situation.

That said,

your own account balance should serve as a guide

.

It is important not to overspend yourself financially.

For a student or trainee

, it is therefore perfectly legitimate to "only" give

30 to 50 euros

.

Many also set some kind of standard budget for weddings.

For one, this ranges between 50 and 100 euros, the other only starts at a value of 150 euros and up.

But

how close the relationship to the bride and groom is also plays a role in the gift of money

.

Are you invited to a co-worker's wedding - or is your brother marrying the love of his life?

Wedding: give friends up to 50 euros, family more than 100 euros

Basically, if the bridal couple is only from your circle of acquaintances, the value of your monetary gift should be between 30 and 50 euros.

But if you are

friends with the bridal couple

, it can be a little more:

up to 100 euros are appropriate in any case

.

However, if the bridal couple is part of the family, even more is possible.

Usually,

aunts, uncles and the parents

of the bride and groom give gifts from 100 and sometimes even up to 500 euros per person

.

A no-go from the point of view of many donors: giving away

less than 50 euros

.

For the dear family you like to dig a little deeper into your pockets.

Even when it comes to best friends.

Split money gift for wedding as a couple

Tip

: If you are invited to a wedding with your better half, you

are welcome to divide the gift of money between two

.

It doesn't matter whether it's close relatives, friends or acquaintances - think about an appropriate amount for the respective occasion and let your partner contribute

to the sum

with their consent .

Advantage: This also protects your wallet.

But what does good old Knigge actually say?

The Etiquette Bible broadly agrees with the above.

After all, no one can tell you how much you should ultimately give the bride and groom.

According to Knigge

, the basic principle is

that you should give the bridal couple at least

as much as the bridal couple spends on the wedding guest at the wedding

(about between 35 and 80 euros).

Of course, the best thing about giving presents is when you put a smile on the faces of the bride and groom – and

help them to invest in the future together

.

Your opinion is asked!
