Carbohydrates can have a positive effect on the course of corona disease, according to researchers.

Some fall seriously ill with Covid-19, others do not even feel the infection.

Researchers have now discovered that diet can influence the course of the disease.

Obesity, advanced age and previous illnesses such as diabetes or high blood pressure: factors that, according to the Robert Koch Institute, increase the risk of severe corona courses.

But lifestyle can also promote recovery – or have a negative impact.

As a Mexican-Australian research team concludes from a study, diet also plays a role.

It is said that those study participants who regularly consumed bread, legumes and grains had less severe symptoms.

The study, published in the

British Medical Journal Nutrition, Prevention & Health

, included 236 people from Mexico City who either had or were suspected of having the coronavirus.

As part of the analysis, the symptoms of the study participants were recorded and daily eating habits and demographic data were compared.

103 people were ultimately classified as corona positive.

It was striking that the severity of the symptoms correlated with the eating habits.

The researchers found that those who regularly consumed foods such as legumes, bread, grains and grains had less severe symptoms compared to their peers.
