Surprise from Kendrick Lamar: The Californian rapper has announced a new album for May 13th.

It should be entitled »Mr.

Morale & The Big Steppers.

This was announced by the multiple Grammy award winner on Monday.

On Twitter, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter tweeted a note from a fan who quipped in February, "Kendrick Lamar is officially retired," and linked to his own website.

There, in turn, the reference to the new album can be read.

The musician also published the information on his official Instagram account.

"Mr.

Morale & The Big Steppers is the rapper's fifth studio album.

Most recently, in 2017, he released the award-winning record »DAMN.«.

He then dealt with personal and political issues with force and clarity (you can read our review here).

The album was long in the charts and was among the most streamed albums of the year.

In addition, Lamar became the first rapper to win the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in the music category in 2018.

The album was a "virtuoso collection of songs united by its colloquial authenticity and rhythmic dynamics," it said in a statement at the time.

And further: The album offers "haunting snapshots that capture the complexity of modern African-American life".

Born in California in 1987, Lamar, whom Pharrell Williams once called the "Bob Dylan of this era," is not only the first rapper to receive a Pulitzer, but also the first prizewinner who comes from neither classical music nor jazz.

Lamar recently made a big appearance in February at the US sports spectacle Super Bowl: During the half-time break in the football final, Lamar stood with singer Mary J. Blige and rap legends Snoop Dogg, Dr.

Dre and Eminem on stage.
