Amazingly cheap test winner for wet dog food.

Berlin - Ideally, dog food should provide nutrients and be free of harmful additives.
In its current test of dog food, Stiftung Warentest has shown that a number of discounter products also have these characteristics.
Dog food tested by Stiftung Warentest: the criteria
The new edition of Stiftung Warentest for May 2022 refers to the (available for a fee) results of the study.
The experts examined 22 types of wet food for adult dogs and six types of wet food for puppies.
The Stiftung Warentest laboratory tested the levels of energy, minerals, vitamins and trace elements and graded the nutritional quality on this basis, reports the Stiftung Warentest website.
It also analyzed whether pollutants or unwanted components such as feathers, horn and bristles were included.
Advertising promises such as "grain-free" and "no added sugar" were also checked.
A high proportion of (muscle) meat, on the other hand, was not specified as a quality feature: dog food uses many by-products of slaughter, such as stomach, liver and heart.
Dogs like to eat the innards, they are sometimes better supplied with vitamins and minerals through the innards than through muscle meat and it enables leftovers to be used and is therefore more sustainable, according to the Stiftung Warentest.

Stiftung Warentest selects test winners: Many inexpensive own brands of the supermarkets
Many dog owners do not find it easy to buy the right dog food.
First you have to get some - dog food is one of the products that are currently becoming scarce in supermarkets.
And then you want to take good care of your animal: When it comes to food for adult dogs, more than half of the products tested are convincing.
Ten of the wet food brands tested scored “very good” or “good”.
Probably surprising for many: Among the test winners here are mainly cheap own brands from supermarkets and discounters.
The choice of puppy food is worse.
Only a third of the products do well here: Two out of six products were able to convince with the grade “good” in the test.
Two products even fail the test.
One reason for this is the manufacturer's information on the packaging.
According to the experts, inappropriate rations are recommended there, according to the Stiftung Warentest.
In addition, the food did not contain enough nutrients that are important for the development and growth of the puppies.
