A private birthday

The mother of Prince Charles, 73, Princess Anne, 71, Prince Andrew, 62 and Prince Edward, 58, has stepped back from public life due to mobility issues.

She decided to celebrate this day "privately", AFP said, according to a spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace.

She flew to the royal estate of Sandringham, 200 km from London, on Wednesday to spend a few days there.

The house overlooking the sea was chosen by the monarch because it was a home loved by her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.
