Federal Public Prosecutor Peter Frank has taken over the investigation of a 54-year-old man from Boxberg in Baden-Württemberg after shots were fired at police officers.
According to SPIEGEL information, the federal prosecutor's office accuses the alleged supporter of the "Reichsbürger" movement of attempted murder in 15 cases.
The case is of particular importance because the attack was directed against police officers as representatives of the rule of law, it said.
Officials from a special task force tried to search the man's house in Boxberg near Heilbronn on Wednesday morning.
He was under investigation on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons.
When the police tried to enter the building, the 54-year-old opened fire - apparently from a Kalashnikov rifle.
A police officer sustained gunshot wounds in both legs.
According to investigators, bulletproof vests prevented two other officers from getting worse.
Found several weapons
In several buildings on the site, the police later found walk-in armories with automatic rifles, war weapons and handguns, as well as a large amount of ammunition.
In a living room, the officers came across a machine gun that had been set up.
According to the Heilbronn police, a Reich war flag and a cannabis plantation were also seized.
Initially, seven people, including two women, were taken into custody.
Only the 54-year-old main suspect is in custody.
The man had a criminal record for violent crimes, police said.
He admitted to investigators that he fired the shots at the police officers.
