The 89-year-old almost missed a wedding because the airline flew her to another country

An 89-year-old woman boarded a flight with her daughter from Britain to Slovenia, only to find that they had landed in Poland.

According to them, the mental anguish was accompanied by the pressure to arrive on time for the grandson's wedding, as well as disregard on the part of the airline, Wizz Air.

A grandmother who thought she was flying to Slovenia to attend her granddaughter's wedding arrived about 1,100 kilometers from her original destination - Poland - after a mistake made during the check-in process at the port of departure.

Daily Records reports that 89-year-old Joe Winter and his 58-year-old daughter Hailey Wicker arrived at Luton Airport in the UK on April 9.

They were to board a Wizz Air flight to Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana.

The two, residents of Swansea, Wales, were on their way to the wedding of Winter's granddaughter, Aaron.

The wedding was held in the Lake Bled area.

Before boarding the plane, they say that before boarding the plane, they talked about Slovenia with one of the crew at the airport, and then presented one of the flight attendants with their boarding passes.

After landing, the two got off the plane and headed for the passport control.

There, an immigration official informed them that they were in fact in Poznan, Poland.

"We presented our passports at the gate and they asked if we had been to Poland before. I said 'yes, why?'. It turned out we were in Poznan," says Winter.

24 hours crazy

Their other family members, who made their way to the wedding on another plane (the right plane), only discovered during the flight that Joe and her daughter Haley were not in the area where they were supposed to sit - seats for the disabled.

This unconventional occurrence led to insane 24 hours and unnecessary expenses of hundreds of euros, designed to bring the two in time for a wedding in Slovenia, which was to take place two days later.

"Everything was stressful," says the daughter, Hailey.

"Even after a week, Wizz Air has not returned to us yet. In those days my mother was in a terrible condition. She did not take her medication for a few days."

And so, with few options for rectifying the situation, the mother and daughter decided to stay overnight in Poznan.

They then took a taxi to the capital Warsaw for 279 pounds (1,134 shekels).

There they boarded a flight to Ljubljana, Slovenia, which cost them an additional sum of almost 700 pounds (2,940 shekels).

Finally, in Ljubljana they met their luggage, including the wedding clothes.

“We haven’t had any contact with the airline yet,” Haley notes.

"No one knew where we were. I would like Wizz Air to apologize and explain to us what happened, as well as give us a full refund."

According to the British news site that reported the case, the response from Wizz Air has not yet been received.
