(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 25 - Via the Z from the opening film of the Cannes Film Festival after the protests of the Ukrainian Institute.

The organization says in a statement that "it supports the decision of director Michel Hazanavicius to change the French title of his film".

Originally, the film was called Z (commeZ), in homage to the zombie genre film.

"Since the letter Z - the note explains - has taken on a bellicose meaning with the war of aggression waged against Ukraine by the Russian government, there can be no such confusion or ambiguity".

The film was then renamed Coupez!

(Cut!) In French.

The international title remains Final Cut.

(HANDLE).
