After a long wait, »Avatar« fans can soon immerse themselves in the new world of the fictional planet Pandora.

At the CinemaCon film trade fair in Las Vegas, director James Cameron presented the first scenes and the title of the science fiction sequel in a video message from New Zealand.

The trailer for "Avatar: The Way of Water" is to be seen in cinemas worldwide from next week, as announced by the trade fair.

CinemaCon attendees with 3D glasses could already get a glimpse of Pandora with blue oceans, lakes and the blue-skinned Na'vi natives, as the film sheet Variety reported.

On display were mythical creatures resembling whales and pelicans.

The preview almost completely dispensed with dialogues.

Cameron began producing four "Avatar" films concurrently in 2017.

The planned film releases were often postponed, most recently because of the corona pandemic.

"Avatar: The Way of Water" is now scheduled for release in mid-December, followed by further parts in 2024, 2026 and 2028.

According to Variety, the first sequel takes place ten years after the original.

Sam Worthington returns as avatar Jake Sully, who now has family on the threatened planet with his blue-skinned alien girlfriend Neytiri (Zoe Saldana).

Cameron also brings back Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Giovanni Ribisi from the old team.

Newcomers include Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel and Michelle Yeoh.

The original production »Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora« (2009) is considered the most financially successful film in history with worldwide revenues of over 2.8 billion dollars.
