VirusTotal from Google: Experts from CySource pointed out a security gap
The number of cyber attacks is increasing, also in Bavaria.
Since the Ukraine war, cyber security has been particularly threatened by increased Russian attacks, which experts expected.
Against this background, the discussion about a virus protection program from Google should be followed with particular attention.
The virus scanner VirusTotal had been exposed to a security gap for some time and should be treated with caution, reported the cyber experts from "CySource" (on the IT platform "The Daily Swig").
VirusTotal is a free online virus scanner from Google.
Users can enter documents, images or entire URLs here and receive a virus scan from various anti-virus programs.
These programs are hosted on VirusTotal servers, but also by other providers.
According to CySource, there were problems with the security of the program.
An image with hidden malicious code had been uploaded to the network, which the experts could use to gain access to the servers.
According to the experts, more than 50 host servers were manipulated in this way.
The malicious code gave the attackers high access rights to the servers.

Founder Quintero of the Google virus scanner VirusTotal: Recently denies the allegations
VirusTotal founder Bernardo Quintero denies that the vulnerability existed.
Only servers offered by third-party providers and partners appeared in the report.
According to Quintero, many third parties would download VirusTotal and host the service themselves on their own servers, the news portal

reports .
So far, the security experts at "CySource" have not commented on the defense of the VirusTotal founder.
So it remains to be seen what the experts at “CySource” will say.
In view of the warnings from experts about increased cyber attacks in Europe from Russia against the background of the Ukraine war, a special focus on secure virus protection programs is currently of particular importance.
A few weeks ago, there was an explicit warning about the Russian virus protection program Kaspersky.
