“I used my own shyness and my weaknesses”: Charlotte Gainsbourg, overwhelming in the film Les Passagers de la nuit

2022-04-29T03:59:26.906Z

After offering one of his best roles to Vincent Lacoste in Amanda, a moving tale of fortuitous paternity, Mikhaël Hers sublimates Charlotte Gainsbourg in the no less moving Les Passagers de la nuit.

The actress slips into the eighties culottes of Elisabeth who, freshly left by her husband, must reinvent herself to raise her adolescent son and daughter.

When she finds a job in a nocturnal program of Radio France, she meets Talulah, a young lost person whom she takes in.

“Élisabeth is as vulnerable as she is determined and solid, as lucid as she is naive.

I wanted to write a character who escapes the classifications of use”, explains the director, who paints the multidimensional portrait of a woman in reconstruction whose fragility is never considered as a weakness.

Fine writing

Heartbreak, addiction, loss of material and emotional landmarks: despite the harshness of the themes, it is gentleness, sisterhood and optimism that dominate in this chronicle which avoids any psychologization.

“Everything is based on tenderness, on an outstretched hand, an emotion out of pathos.

It might seem cutesy, steeped in good feelings, but it would be without counting on Mikhaël's delicacy.

It's hard to find better words than those of Charlotte Gainsbourg to describe this marvel of sensitivity.
