“ Pieces

It is in these terms that Gustave Flaubert defined the feeling of love in one of his first letters to Louise Colet.

To pay tribute to the writer, whose bicentenary was celebrated in 2021, pianist David Kadouch took him at his word and put music to the intimate and contradictory feelings of his most famous heroine,

Madame Bovary .

.

An exercise in both literary and musical exegesis which last August took the form of a commented recital at the La Roque-d'Anthéron Piano Festival.

And which has just been released on record.

No audio commentary this time.

David Kadouch lets the music do the talking, reserving his thoughts on the novel and his choice of pieces for the booklet.

Which opens with short texts addressed to Emma Bovary by the novelist Pauline Delabroy-Allard.

Their epistolary form recalls the correspondence that Flaubert maintained with his lover Louise Colet, at the genesis of his novel.
