, during the World Swimming Championships taking place in Greensboro, USA Armstrong, 21, Olympic gold medalist in Tokyo with mixed relay 4x100, broke the previous record of 23.80 seconds set by Russian Kliment Kolesnikov during the European Championships in Budapest on May 18, 2021.

"It's something I've always wanted and I'm over the moon right now," he said after the race that validated his qualification for the next World Championships to be held in Budapest from 18 June to 3 July.
