According to experts, the summer weather in Germany could be as warm and dry as it has been for 30 years.

But extreme weather could cloud the sky.

Kassel – According to weather expert Dominik Jung, April was too dry and too warm.

Spring could already be a harbinger of summer weather in 2022, because the meteorologist from wetter.net fears a hot summer.

The mild temperatures of the past April days raised hopes for sunny summer months and, according to meteorologist Jung, this could continue.

Because 2022 is already warmer on average than the past 30 years.

With more than 2 degrees above the average temperature of recent years, April is picking up - in June it could then be comparatively even warmer.

Weather in Germany: Experts expect extreme weather conditions

According to the American weather service (NOAA), the weather trend in June could be warmer than before, especially in the north-east.

On average, temperatures will then rise by 1 to 2.5 degrees.

Still, not everything is sunshine and roses.

Jung also expects "individual days and weeks" that could bring extreme weather conditions.

"It can get really hot for two days and really cold for ten days," says the expert.

The past summers have shown that we have to reckon with extreme weather.

Continuous rain with floods and sweltering heat with periods of drought raged in Germany.

Wetter.com even speaks of a "summer of superlatives" for the summer of 2018 - it was the second driest since records began in 1881. Three years ago, temperatures in Frankfurt were over 30 degrees for 18 days, according to Wetter.com.

In comparison: The flood disaster in 2021 in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.

Could there be another storm in summer in 2022?

Forecast for summer weather 2022: dry period for Germany

In June, meteorologist Jung from the weather service Q.met sees at least very dry days in Germany.

Then "less precipitation than usual, especially in the north," can be expected, explains Jung.

However, a balanced weather situation can be seen in June in the east and west.

It's completely different in July: "You can't measure the direction of travel there," says Jung.

In the west it will be a little too wet, in the south-east a little too dry.

For the west, the rain front in July is followed by a period of drought in August.

And this is how the weather could be in the summer trend in Germany:

Month

temperature trend

probability of rain

June 2022

1-2 degrees warmer than average

less rain in the north, balanced in the west and east

July 2022

1-2 degrees warmer in the northeast, otherwise 0.5-1 degrees warmer

wet in the west, dry in the southeast

Aug 2022

0.5-1 degree warmer

dry in the west and south-east,

On average, meteorologist Dominik Jung expects a warm and dry summer, but the weather trend could change at any time, says the weather expert.
