Record for the American
Jacky Hunt-Broersma
who
ran 102 marathons in 102 days with an amputated leg
.
"I'm happy I made it - he said - I can't believe it. The best thing was the incredible support I received from people all over the world. They told me I'm an inspiration to push your limits." .
But Jacky, 46,
does not want to stop
and has decided to close the month of April by running two more marathons and thus
reach 104.
His record is still unofficial at the moment, the
Guinness World Records
, in fact, could take up to a year to certify the result.
In the past, Jacky was by no means a sports person.
Then in 2001 she was diagnosed
with Ewing's sarcoma
, a rare form of
cancer
, and she had her left leg amputated from the knee down.
Running changed her life.
Jacky's feat began on January 17, when he ran the distance of a classic marathon (42.2 km) on a track near his home in Arizona.
Since then, one race after another has followed.
Initially he wanted to run 100 marathons in 100 days but after learning that British non-disabled athlete
Kate Jayden
had run 101 in 101 days, he decided to go for 102.
Jacky ran a total of 4,300 even km, like from New York to Mexico City.
An Italian is also in the Guinness Book of Records for the number of marathons run consecutively:
Enzo Caporaso
who made 59 in a row in 2019.
