Coco Thai: Thailand on the beach of Tel Aviv

The challenge of turning the beach in Tel Aviv into a place of entertainment, where the food is not a compromise, but the experience itself, was taken on by the duo Nadav and Daniel, with their insane Thai food, and for us it is a perfect connection

We almost bore ourselves to write again, about some bassa that has no proper food on the beach.

There are countless articles, about how striped this story is, about how much the coastal strip in Israel in general, and in Tel Aviv in particular, is not used properly.

And it's not that there were no attempts, but it turns out that it's not such a simple challenge.

Each time it begins with a great promise, and ends with a weak response.

It was in June of five years ago, pre-summer 2017, that we interviewed Omar Miller here with his calypso, with promises of a culinary revolution on the beaches.

Quite ironically, right where Miller stood with that promise, on the ruins of Calypso on Frishman Beach, Coco Thai Restaurant opened this week.

Will it be different this time?

To be sure, it looks promising.

The culinary reins of Coco Thai, received by the pair of chefs Nadav and Daniel, are backed by the experienced restaurant team of Cafe Europa, with a further reinforcement of night people and restaurateurs.

All of these have banded together for one sacred purpose - that this time this story will work.

And why not actually?

Is there a more logical connection than Thai food and the beach of Tel Aviv?

The pair of restaurateurs and the couple Nadav and Daniel, are remembered by many for their participation in the first season of the winning kitchen MKR.

Nadav, who grew up in the Arava for an agricultural family, met and became acquainted with the culinary world of Thai agricultural workers, from whom he learned the Thai food tradition.

Years later she joined the culinary and couple journey Daniel and from there the two embarked on a long journey in Thailand.

Immediately upon the end of the season, during the Corona period, they translated the success and easy love into a successful pop-up delivery.

Later, the two served their food at the Dan Caesarea Hotel, and now it is time for them to jump into the salt water of the beaches of Tel Aviv.

Coco Thai is a Thai seafood restaurant that offers an intriguing, unusual and appetizing menu inspired by Isan Province, the northern and mountainous region of Thailand, whose cuisine and the many dishes that characterize it have become a hallmark of the couple.

To all of these, Nadav and Daniel combined fresh fish dishes that have come together into a tempting menu.

In the menu, which is divided into first, intermediate and main courses, you will find, among other things,

Nam Tech

- salad of charcoal-grilled sheitel chunks, extracellular greens, lemongrass, purple onions, chili cells and toasted rice chips (NIS 68),

Todd Man Pele

Charcoal-grilled calamari, southern Thai curry, potatoes, onions, fish sauce, coriander, Thai basil and crispy shallots.

Served with salty roti (NIS 92) and more.

The impressive kitchen that the two established, contains traditional equipment, in which the restaurant staff prepares, daily and handmade, the basics for the variety of dishes - curry mixes, hinges, flat and thin roti breads, peanuts and nuts made with gentle roasting and dried and perfumed spices in the traditional method.

These are paired with fish, seafood, fresh Thai greens, chunks of meat and more.

Coco Thai will operate in a designed interior space that overlooks huge windows on the beach of Tel Aviv.

At the entrance of the restaurant is a wooden terrace with outdoor seating.

The place has been operating since the morning, when during the morning a breakfast menu is served, with a Thai twist, at noon slightly lighter Thai dishes, including child-friendly dishes, and in the evening, the full and invested menu will be served, which is actually the highlight of the place.

During the day the interior space is expected to remain closed, and food will only be served outside.

Reservations will only be possible in the evening (Sunday to Friday, starting at 19:00).
