A new law will come into force in Germany in May.

At Aldi, Lidl, Rewe and Edeka, the price information on the shelves must therefore be changed.

Kassel – There will be a big change in May for shopping in the supermarket or at the discounter.

From May 28th, a new price indication law will come into force in Germany.

This should make it easier for consumers to compare prices at Edeka or Lidl, for example.

Numerous supermarkets and discounters such as Aldi and Rewe are already adapting to the new regulation and changing the price tags on the supermarket shelves.

The change is usually only visible to customers at second glance.

But with the help of the new regulation, consumers can even save money when shopping, so it's worth taking a closer look at the price tag.

Price tags at Aldi, Rewe, Edeka, Lidl and Co. are changing

So far, the price tags at Aldi, Rewe, Edeka, Lidl and Co. have indicated the price of the product as well as the so-called basic price after 100 grams, 100 milliliters, one liter or one kilo.

With the new regulation from May, however, only the information per kilo or liter applies.

The change in the Price Indication Ordinance saves customers the hassle of converting two different units.

For loose groceries such as fruit, meat, fish and vegetables, Aldi, Rewe, Edeka, Lidl and Co. must also indicate the price per kilo or liter from May 28th.

Previously, you could choose between 100 grams and one kilo for the price.

Change at Aldi, Rewe, Edeka, Lidl and Co. in May 2022: price comparison should be easier

The so-called simplified basic price should lead to more transparency when shopping at Aldi, Rewe, Edeka, Lidl and Co. and make it much easier for consumers to compare prices.

You can even save money by comparing them.

In view of the currently rising prices for groceries in supermarkets and discounters, it is worth taking a look at the basic price.

Consumers can find this on all groceries and also on some drugstore items, both on the price tag on the supermarket shelf and on the product, in brochures and on the Internet.

In supermarkets such as Rewe, Aldi and Lidl, customers have recently often found themselves in front of empty shelves.

Oil and flour are scarce, now the next bottleneck is imminent.
