Not only does the Japanese passion for the king of the Mediterranean explode again, but new fresh markets are opening up in Europe as well, with overall requests increasing by 40%.
Producers are satisfied, they could count on doubled sales prices, higher than pre-pandemic ones, but the energy crisis linked to the war in Ukraine weighs heavily, causing the costs of the fishing campaign to rise by up to 70%.

Everything is ready for the tuna entrepreneurs, who on May 26 will be able to start fishing with the purse seine system until July 1, relying on the same catch quotas granted last year.
The contracts, in fact, are being defined in these days and everything bodes well for a strong recovery of the markets, but the accounts will have to balance with the costs of diesel first of all.
It is important, as underlined by the Day wanted by the UN, to raise awareness of the importance of choosing tuna from sustainable fishing.
A principle espoused by the non-profit organization MSC Marine Stewardship Council, responsible for the most important certification program for sustainable seafood products in the world.
