Goulash is a classic dish that is often on the table in this country, with pasta, potatoes and co. But do you also know goulash casserole?

Here is the brilliant recipe.

Goulash is a down-to-earth dish.

Made from beef or pork, stewed with plenty of onions, broth and often a dash of red wine, the meat stew is served with noodles, dumplings or potatoes.

But there is one more delicious way to go.

Baked with cheese, the classic becomes a new treat.

Goulash casserole: You need these ingredients

  • 2 medium onions 

  • 3 peppers, green and red 



    500 g mixed beef and pork 

  • 2 tablespoons oil 

  • Salt, pepper, sweet paprika 

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste (you can substitute it)

  • 2 level tablespoons flour 

  • 650-750 ml beef broth 

  • 300 grams of potatoes

  • 200-250 g crème fraîche (alternative: sour cream)

  • 150 grams of grated cheese

How to prepare goulash as a casserole: hearty recipe with simple preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 200 degrees top/bottom heat and prepare a casserole dish.

  • Peel the onions and cut them into fine strips.

    Also, peel and dice the potatoes.

  • Heat the oil in a large saucepan and sear the meat on all sides.

    Season it well with salt, pepper and paprika powder.

  • Add the onions to the meat and roast them for a few minutes, then add the peppers and cook with the lid on for about 5 minutes.

    Then remove the lid and let the leaked liquid evaporate.

  • Then stir in the tomato paste and roast it for 5 minutes, then do the same with the flour.

  • Deglaze the goulash with broth and let everything boil.

    You can now spice it up again.

  • Meanwhile, spread the potato cubes in the casserole dish and then spread the goulash on top.

  • Place the casserole dish in the oven and let the goulash casserole bake for 25 minutes.

  • Then take out the form, spread the crème fraîche on the goulash, sprinkle with the cheese and bake for another 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and crispy.
