Turmeric is a natural remedy for bloating in Ayurvedic cuisine.

A drink with the healthy root is said to have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Munich – Turmeric is said to slow down inflammation and relieve the feeling of fullness after eating.

But that's not all: The root hides a real treasure for health in its bright orange interior, at least that's what laboratory studies show.

The spice is said to be a remedy for cancer, Alzheimer's and osteoarthritis.

But what is really true about these theories and what is the easiest way to incorporate the root into the diet?

The answer to the last question is not difficult: for example with a turmeric shot.

The active ingredient in the turmeric tuber is visible at first glance when the root is cut: the yellow pigment curcumin.

This is considered to be anti-inflammatory in laboratory tests.

It could therefore help against inflammatory diseases such as ulcerative colitis.

So is turmeric a superfood?

Whether these laboratory studies can be transferred to humans is possible, but has not yet been proven.

The effect against diseases such as Alzheimer's, cancer and arthrosis have not yet been sufficiently investigated.

Not only in traditional Chinese medicine and according to the teachings of Ayurveda, the turmeric root is used as a digestive agent and against flatulence.

This effect seems undisputed.

Therefore, many dishes are spiced up with turmeric.

Turmeric Drink: An easy DIY recipe

You only need a few ingredients for a turmeric shot with ginger:

  • 50 g turmeric root

    (alternatively one teaspoon ground turmeric)

  • 50 g ginger root

  • A lemon

  • An orange

Peel the turmeric and ginger roots and puree them in a blender with 200 milliliters of hot, but not boiling, water.

Squeeze the lemon and orange and add, let the mixture steep for about 15 minutes.

Strain through a sieve to drink, done.

The cooled drink will keep in the fridge for up to four days.

By the way: If turmeric stains get on your clothes during preparation, you can remove them with household remedies such as baking powder.

If you want to increase the positive effects of the turmeric shot, add some black pepper.

The ingredient piperine contained in the pepper increases the absorption of the turmeric active ingredient curcumin by a factor of 2000, as a study by the Freiburg University Hospital shows.

If the whole thing is too spicy for you, you can also use a few drops of neutral cooking oil, which is supposed to improve the absorption of the fat-soluble curcumin.

And if you really want to heat up your immune system, we recommend a ginger shot, especially during the cold season.
