A statistic on the current fuel prices allows German drivers to take a deep breath.

However, a comparison with the years 2020 and 2021 shows an absurd price development.

Berlin/Munich - Anyone who went to a German gas station in April to get new fuel for their car might have been a little surprised: the development of fuel prices indicated a slight recovery in some places.

As the ADAC explained in its evaluation for April 2022, a liter of Super E10 cost an average of around 1.97 euros nationwide last month.

That is about 9.9 cents less than what had to be paid for fuel in March.

The diesel price has also fallen on a monthly average, by 11.6 cents to an amount of 2.024 euros per liter.

Can motorists hope for better times again after energy prices have skyrocketed as a result of the Ukraine conflict?

The answer obviously has to be “no”: Because the price of petrol and diesel rose again noticeably over the course of the month, according to the traffic club.

Super E10 was recently just under two euros, while diesel has cost consistently over two euros again since mid-April.

Current fuel prices: Diesel has increased almost 100 percent compared to 2020

Another evaluation shows how bizarre the overall development of fuel prices at German filling stations is.

The ADAC illustrates the rate of increase compared to the Corona years 2020 and 2021, when the oil price plummeted globally: For diesel, the difference between April 2022 and the previous year was a whopping 71.5 cents!

Compared to spring 2020, the extent of the tragedy is even greater, which is costing German drivers a lot of money: when fuel prices fell significantly during the pandemic, petrol cost almost 80 cents less than in April of the current year, and diesel was even on average 94.2 cents cheaper.

Incidentally, anyone who believes that the rise in fuel prices is only due to the price of crude oil and the Ukraine crisis is mistaken:

Fuel prices at a record high: Are people now increasingly buying an e-car?

Meanwhile, the digital association Bitkom dealt with the question of whether more and more citizens in Germany are considering buying an electric car due to the rise in fuel prices.

According to a survey, however, this proportion has only increased marginally compared to the time before the escalation in Ukraine began.

Apparently, about every eighth household (twelve percent) is considering buying a Stromer.

In January, this proportion was still ten percent.

This rate of increase hardly seems noticeable - and could be related to the fact that electricity prices also rose in the corresponding period.

Because that is also felt by owners of electric cars.
