Covid-19: in France, the number of daily cases falls below the symbolic threshold of 50,000

2022-05-03T19:01:31.818Z

The number of positive patients hospitalized in critical care drops below 1,500, which had not happened since the end of March.

The drop in contamination is confirmed, as is the ebb of the pandemic.

For the first time since the Omicron variant took its ease in France by surpassing Delta and its more serious forms, the number of daily cases (on average over the past week) of Covid-19 fell again this Tuesday below the symbolic threshold of 50 000, according to Public Health France.

This decline is part of a general downward trend since a peak reached in early April around 140,000 cases discovered each day.

Good news too: the drop is also confirmed on the hospital side: 22,849 positive patients were hospitalized on Tuesday (compared to 23,211 the day before and 24,703 last Tuesday).

The number of positive patients in critical care (1,498) falls below 1,500, which had not happened since the end of March.

Over a week, all hospital indicators are green.

And this, even if the number of new daily admissions to the hospital was slightly higher on Tuesday than that of the day before: 1,463 against 1,442 on Monday (but 1,932 a week earlier).

142 patients with Covid have been admitted to critical care in the past 24 hours (139 on Monday but 202 last Tuesday).

123 positive people died in 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in France to 146,262 in more than two years.

Vaccination has changed little: 54.3 million people have received at least one injection (i.e. 80.6% of the total population) and 53.4 million now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 79.3% of the total population ), according to figures from the Ministry of Health.
