Is the shower part of your daily ritual in the bathroom?

Unthinkable for supporters of the “Cleansing Reduction” movement.

But is showering rarely healthy?

For many, the daily shower is the first wake-up call of the day.

But there are also those who advocate less water contact.

There is even an English term for this trend: "Cleansing Reduction", which means "washing less".

Because soap and water would only destroy the natural protective layer of the skin and dry out the hair unnecessarily, so the arguments against the daily shower

.

Shower twice a week - according to the "Cleansing Reduction" supporters, that would be enough.

Sabine Zenker from Munich explains whether this is really the case.

“Especially when it comes to health, hygiene is at the top,” the Stylebook

portal quotes

the Munich dermatologist as saying.

In principle, everyone can shower as often and for as long as they like.

However, too much soap, the wrong type of soap or water that is too hot could actually cause the skin to feel tight after the shower.

If you are familiar with this problem, you should only set the water temperature to lukewarm - or even cool.

Alternating with warm water, the latter has a positive effect on blood circulation.

If you have dry skin, you should use mild cleansing products.

Clean hands, face, armpits and intimate areas daily

According to Zenker, people with dry skin should use mild, pH-neutral washing lotions and/or shower oils so as not to destroy the skin's natural protective layer.

In general, it is worth using cleaning products sparingly with sensitive and dry skin, according to the dermatologist

.

Also, you don't have to lather your entire body every time you take a shower.

Only hands, face, armpits and the intimate area should be washed daily, informs West German Broadcasting Cologne (WDR).

And also the feet.

According to the WDR, you only have to bathe or shower once or twice a week.

In principle, one could shower even less frequently, it is said that it would not harm the body.

According to the consumer magazine Ökotest, it is sufficient from a dermatological point of view for healthy skin to shower only twice a week.

However, it is also acknowledged that the face, intimate area and armpits should be cleaned more frequently.

If you have healthy skin and don't overdo it with aggressive care products, you can also take a shower every day.

But skin and the environment would thank you if you kept the shower time as short as possible and the water as cool as possible.
