After two years in which the discussion about corona vaccines did not fall off the agenda, the Ministry of Health is now announcing a new vaccination campaign, the one we thought was a thing of the past.

Following the outbreak of the polio virus, for the first time in a decade, and following alarming evidence that polio is already found in various areas around the country, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday (Monday) a vaccine completion campaign - "2 drops 2022".

"The only way to beat polio, just as we have won in the past, is to prevent infection and spread - and this is done through vaccination," the health ministry said, "only a child who is fully vaccinated - is protected and protects the environment."

So who should get vaccinated in the new vaccination campaign?

Here are all the details.

Children from 6 weeks to a year and a half

: For these children, the polio vaccine is part of the routine of vaccines given in a drop of milk, but the Ministry of Health calls for the first 2 routine vaccines (the "pentagonal" vaccine) to be 6 weeks and 10 weeks old.

The rest of the vaccines will be given according to the routine immunization schedule.

Children from one and a half years to age 9

: There is no need to complete a vaccine.

"These children, who are vaccinated according to their age according to the vaccination routine, continue according to the routine immunization program," the Ministry of Health said.

Children ages 9 to 17

: At these ages it is already a little more complex.

The Ministry of Health explained that children born between 2005 and 2013 were not vaccinated with the attenuated live vaccine according to the current vaccination routine, since the vaccine was returned following the outbreak of polio in southern Israel in 2013.

Most of the natives of these yearbooks were vaccinated with only one dose as part of the first vaccination campaign, and therefore most of them had to complete the second bOPV vaccine dose as part of the current vaccination campaign.

If you are not sure if your child is immunized, the first step should be to check his or her immunization record.

If you do not find the vaccination booklet, you should know that in most cases the vaccines are documented in a drop of milk and at school in a computerized record, and can be contacted with any hesitation.

Where are you vaccinated?

  • Children up to the age of 6 and children who have not been vaccinated against polio at all will be vaccinated with a drop of milk

Why is it advisable to get a polio vaccine?

The polio vaccine is the most effective means of preventing infection with the virus and protecting against the disease.

The vaccine has been around since the 1950s, it is effective and safe, and has led to the eradication of polio in places where there is a strict adherence to relatively high immunization coverage.

Are there any side effects to the vaccine?

Polio vaccines are safe and effective.

Some vaccinators may develop mild side effects such as fever and a local allergic reaction.

These symptoms usually go away within a few days.
