The number of children and young people who fled Ukraine and were admitted to schools in Germany has risen significantly to almost 92,000.
This is shown by current figures from the Conference of Ministers of Education (KMK), which were published on Tuesday.
A week earlier, the number of registered students was around 65,000.
With around 17,700 children and young people, Bavaria's schools have so far taken in the most refugees from Ukraine, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia with 14,700 and Baden-Württemberg with 14,170.
North Rhine-Westphalia reported the most newcomers last week.
Almost 6,000 children and young people were newly admitted to educational institutions in the federal state.
In mid-April, KMK President Karin Prien named a possible number of up to 400,000 refugee students who could be accommodated at the schools.
A total of around eleven million schoolchildren are taught in Germany.
Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression on February 24, the federal police have identified 400,632 refugees from Ukraine in Germany, mostly women, children and old people, as the Federal Ministry of the Interior announced on Twitter on Tuesday.
Since Ukrainians can enter the country without a visa, the actual number of war refugees who have sought protection in Germany is likely to be higher.
