Hungary and Slovakia have requested a waiver until the end of 2023. Sofia has joined in the request. Von der Leyen: 'I embrace oil in 6 months' (ANSA)

No EU Council decision on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia.

The meeting of the permanent representatives of the 27 (Coreper) ended without an agreement on the proposals presented by the Commission, also due to the limited time available to investigate their contents.

Coreper will meet again in the next few days, perhaps as early as tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Hungary has made it known that it will not support the EU proposal for a gradual embargo on Russian oil as it was presented.

The spokesman for the Hungarian government, Zoltan Kovacs, said, explaining that Budapest does not see "any plans or guarantees on how a transition" from Russian oil "could be managed on the basis of current proposals and on how Hungary's energy security would be guaranteed. ".

According to what has been learned, Hungary and Slovakia have asked, in the face of a possible derogation for them until the end of 2023, to have more time before cutting off the flow of oil arriving to them from Russia.

"From a purely technological point of view - said Bulgarian Finance Minister Assen Vassiliev - Bulgaria can do without Russian oil, but this would significantly increase the cost of fuel in the country. Therefore, if the European Commission allows exceptions to the embargo oil, Bulgaria will also exercise the right to ask for them ".

Bulgaria is over 90% dependent on Russian oil.

"The EU countries that will continue to oppose the embargo on Russian oil are complicit in the crimes committed by Russia on Ukrainian territory".

Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba said in a video message.
