(ANSA) - LONDON, MAY 04 - "It is inconceivable that the United Kingdom does not support Finland or Sweden if they are ever attacked".
This was stated by the British Defense Minister, BenWallace, during a press conference in Niinisalo (Western Finland) with his Finnish counterpart AnttiKaikkonen.
"Even without a formal agreement, we are European countries that share the same values," added Wallace, referring to the fact that the two Scandinavian states are not members of Natoma and have expressed a willingness to join after the Russian attack on Ukraine.
With respect to the decision by Helsinki, the minister stressed that he must freely choose whether to join the military alliance, despite the declarations arriving from Moscow on the need for the country to maintain its historical neutrality.
