Lidl sells strange cheese product for Mother's Day - "The baby is a bonus"

Many children celebrate their mother on Mother's Day.

Discounter Lidl also wants to celebrate the day properly - with a cheese.

But he also causes a lot of ridicule.

Munich – Next Sunday (May 8, 2022) is Mother's Day.

Then all moms will be honored again in Germany.

Many daughters and sons give their mothers presents - the classic gifts include flowers, chocolates and the like.

There are certainly one or two mothers who are happy on their special day without a present.

Some moms even reject it entirely.

But Mother's Day gifts are part of the tradition for many families.

The discounter Lidl probably doesn't want to miss out on celebrating Mother's Day properly.

To mark the occasion, the company has put a product on its shelves.

On Twitter, which was recently taken over by billionaire Elon Musk, a user posted an excerpt from a Lidl brochure.

This shows the so-called "Mother's Day Cheese" from the Berg Bauer brand.

The cheese, which weighs 250 grams, should cost 3.29 euros.

The Twitter user didn't seem entirely won over by the Mother's Day special.

Rather, she scoffed: "Women are 9 months pregnant and then sacrifice at least 18 years of life so that they get "Mother's Day Cheese" from Lidl once a year." Another user commented similarly ironically on Lidl's "Mother's Day Cheese".

"The baby is a bonus," she quipped in reference to the dairy.

"Or that they get a free Burger King pregnancy whopper on Mother's Day," another user commented on the tweet.

Does this Mother's Day gift from the fast food restaurant chain really exist?

This was also new to the author of the tweet.

"So what's up?" she asked.

A branch in the capital is apparently taking part in a corresponding campaign.

"Only in a Burger King in Berlin, there's Whoppers with really weird combinations," was the answer.

Accordingly, the supposedly special sense of taste of pregnant women is also discussed.

According to the Twitter user, Burger King, which recently expanded its range, offers expectant mothers special whoppers.

Among other things, topped with "fried egg and banana or vanilla ice cream and olives".

But back to Lidl's "Mother's Day Cheese".

Not all users on Twitter viewed him with suspicion either.

After all, one user said that she might give the special cheese a chance.

"I'd try it," she decided.

So are the mums in the Federal Republic happy when their offspring present them with Lidl cheese on Mother's Day?

There is probably no clear answer to that.

As the saying goes: tastes differ.

Meanwhile, Lidl raised eyebrows recently by raising the price of cucumbers.
