It was considered lost for more than 100 years.

Now the painting »Leopold Czihaczek at the Piano« (1907) by Egon Schiele has reappeared.

As reported by the Leopold Museum in Vienna, it was privately owned.

It was preserved in "extremely good condition".

»Leopold Czihaczek at the piano« is one of the artist's early works.

It shows Schiele's uncle Leopold Czihaczek (1842-1929) playing the piano in his apartment in Vienna's Leopoldstadt.

After the early death of Schiele's father, Czihaczek took over the guardianship of Egon Schiele in 1906.

The artist portrayed his uncle several times.

So far, only a sketch and a preliminary drawing of the painting have survived.

A historical black and white photograph showed the painting on a wall.

The exact size was unknown until the painting was discovered.

According to the museum, the owners agreed to make the painting available on permanent loan.

After cleaning and restoration, it will be made accessible to the public in the permanent exhibition.

Before that, it should be available as a Non-Fungible Token (NFT).
