Pope Francis has to rest his knee and therefore uses a wheelchair.
The head of the Catholic Church was pushed while seated by a staff member for an audience with nuns on Thursday.
The 85-year-old recently reported that the doctors had instructed him to put as little stress on the joint as possible because of the pain in his right knee.
Most recently, the pontiff was already limping a lot during his public appearances and had to cancel events again and again – but Francis did not appear in public in a wheelchair.
As was learned from the Vatican, the Pope may have to use a wheelchair again and again in the future.
The upcoming events should take place as planned.
In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Francis said that he was suffering from a ligament injury in his knee and had to undergo treatment with injections.
