Cleaning discolored Tupperware: How to get it clean again
It's nothing unusual for food storage containers to discolour.
Spicy foods in particular,
such as tomato sauce or foods containing carotene
(carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, etc.) often cause unsightly discolouration.
If conventional cleaning with dish soap or a second run through the dishwasher doesn't help, you should try this household trick.
Almost everyone has the ingredients for this at home:
Sprinkle
sugar
in the Tupperware until the bottom is completely covered.
Then put some
washing
-up liquid and some
ice cubes
in the plastic bowl.
Now fill the storage container with
sparkling water
until the whole container is full and leave it on for about ten minutes to an hour.
Finally, wash the can.
The discoloration should now be gone from the Tupperware.
If necessary, you can repeat the process again.
The sugar and washing-up liquid used have a fat-dissolving effect, while the coldness of the ice cubes helps to break up the stain in the plastic.
Other home remedies that help with discolored Tupperware
Alternatively, you can also use other home remedies to counteract the discoloration.
For example, a
mixture of baking powder and vinegar
should help: Simply sprinkle the bottom of the storage container with baking powder, fill up with vinegar and leave to work for half an hour.
Or you can leave your Tupperware
in the sun for a few hours
: the UV light will bleach out any remaining discolouration.
Incidentally, the latter is also said to help with stubborn carrot and grass stains on clothing.
By the way, a dishwasher tab should work wonders against stubborn stains on the ceramic hob.
