On June 4, the Film Academy will elect a new president after Mariano Barroso's term ends.
Last Wednesday the period for presenting candidacies ended at noon, and this Friday the institution, through its electoral commission, which has audited the conformity of those presented, has announced the short lists.
For the first time, up to four candidates for the presidency have been presented, something never experienced before in a body that has no effective power, but that does serve as a public platform for communication and promotion of Spanish cinema.
The shortlists are headed by the producer Valérie Delpierre, the actress Luisa Gavasa, the director of photography Teresa Medina and the director and critic Fernando Mendéz-Leite.

On June 4, the general assembly will be held, in which, in addition to electing the presidential list, half of the board of directors will be renewed.
Since 2006, when Ángeles González-Sinde was elected after the presidency of Mercedes Sampietro, no president has completed his term of government until this end of Mariano Barroso's mandate.
In between, either through resignations, appointments to other positions, chosen for interim or death, have passed Eduardo Campoy, Álex de la Iglesia, Enrique González Macho, Beatriz de la Gándara, Antonio Resines and Yvonne Blake.
Barroso has had to overcome various obstacles in his presidency.
The first, the most painful, was his arrival at the post provisionally in May 2018 due to the illness of the then maximum president, Yvonne Blake, of which the filmmaker was his vice president.
That June he was elected with huge support.
During his tenure, he has multiplied cultural events, created the Residency program, turned the Goyas into traveling awards and fought against the economic debacle suffered by movie people due to the pandemic.
