The global semiconductor shortage shows no signs of abating and will be a long time coming, according to Intel's CEO.
So the PS5 could be hard to come by for quite a while.
PS5 and Xbox Series X stocks are still limited.
And according to Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, it's going to stay that way for a very long time.
He reassessed the situation to CNBC.
He assumes that the availability of semiconductors will not improve in the next two years.
The chip crisis will also affect PS5 stocks.
PS5: Production still only possible to a limited extent
The chips are required for numerous electronic devices, including game consoles, of course.
The semiconductor shortage means that
production is only possible under difficult conditions
and is slowed down.
According to Gelsinger, this means that the current situation will
last until 2024
– at least that is his current assessment.
He previously assumed that the semiconductor shortage would persist until 2023.
PS5: Retailers sometimes put customers on waiting lists
Even when the PS5 was launched, the range of individual consoles was very limited.
From time to time dealers receive contingents, which, however, are quickly sold out again.
In order to be able to control sales to some extent, some providers have decided
to put customers on waiting lists
.
So it might be worth asking about the PS5 in local stores.
The resale of the PS5 at exorbitant prices on the Internet is still widespread and an annoying problem.
To put a stop to this, most retailers
only sell one console per customer
.
Sony itself also started direct sales of the PS5 in Germany a while ago.
The forecasts given by Pat Gelsinger refer to internal estimates by Intel and are therefore quite reliable.
The coming months may show whether his forecast for 2024 will change again.
