“Top Gun is a real myth among pilots”.
It is with these words that Pierre-Henri Chuet, a former French Navy fighter pilot, laid the foundations.
"It's a film that pushed a lot of people to be fighter pilots."
On May 25, "Top Gun Maverick" will be released in cinemas in France (two days before the release in the United States) and will put an end to 36 long years of waiting since the release of the first Top Gun of the name.
A wait all the longer, as the release was postponed for two years because of the pandemic.
It's pretty close to reality
In this long-awaited sequel, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, alias Tom Cruise returns to the controls this time as an instructor at Top Gun, the elite of fighter pilots.
Director Joseph Kosinski's main challenge: to combine fiction and realism.
Looking at the trailers, Pierre-Henri Chuet believes that the bet is rather successful.
“It's quite close to reality from a technological point of view.
From a tactical, combat point of view, it gives a good idea.
It's a very good popularization, "says the former fighter pilot, now Youtuber specializing in aviation.
Pierre-Henri Chuet even specifies “in the combat scenes in terms of explosion and manoeuvre, 80% of what we see is realistic.
The remaining 20% is a bit of the Maverick,” he quips.
All scenes were shot during US Army exercises.
The actors were themselves on the planes for the shots.
