New "Mafia" game apparently in the works

According to a report by Kotaku, a new "Mafia" part is in the works.
The "Mafia" series is considered to be one of the most popular action games in the style of "Grand Theft Auto".
The game principle is very similar: players move from mission to mission in a car through a fictitious US American city.
"Mafia" is characterized by the numerous references to well-known mafia films and by the fact that it is set in time in past epochs - the first part played in the 1930s.
The last release was Mafia: Definitive Edition, which came out in 2020.
It looks like a new part is in the works.

The games portal Kotaku reports that

The site relies on anonymous sources.
As a result, it should be codenamed "Nero" and tell the history of the previous three "Mafia" parts.
This means the game will be set back in the 1930s or earlier.
Part One's protagonist, Tommy Angelo, is unlikely to appear in it.
It is conceivable that Don Salieri and his rise to influential mafia boss will be the focus - but at this point it is only speculation.

The development studio responsible, Hangar 13, has had to cancel a number of projects in recent years, although considerable sums have already been invested in development.
It remains to be seen whether the new "Mafia" game will survive.
Since the development is not far advanced, it will probably take a few more years until the publication - if it comes to that.
