International Museum Day: What does the world look like after an epidemic? | Israel today

As every year, Lag B'Omer will open dozens of museums free of charge, offering unique activities under the title "The Power of Museums" and their role in society.


May 19 will mark Israel's International Museum Day, which takes place around the world every year in May.

The purpose of the international festival is to expose the cultural richness of the museums, encourage the public to visit them and increase awareness of the role of museums in society.

On the occasion of the local celebration, which is led by the Museums Association, ICUM Israel and the museums around the country and will be marked as every year on Lag B'Omer - dozens of museums around the country will open on Thursday, May 19, free of charge.

The museums will hold a variety of activities inspired by the selected annual theme "The Power of Museums" - which this year will turn the spotlight on the important role of museums in community development, raising an educated generation, and creating an innovative and revolutionary space.

In addition, there will be special tours and tutorials, gallery talk sessions, art workshops for children, and exposure to new exhibits and unique exhibits.

However, some of the activities will take place for a fee, and should be checked in front of the selected museum.

Among the activities that will take place at the various museums on this day: Ben Gurion Barracks in Sde Boker, the Museum of Man and Animals in Ramat Gan in a new exhibition called "Family with a Tail" - which explores the connection between people and pets, "- An exhibition that describes how the world is shaped during and after an epidemic.

Among the museums that will be opened free of charge to the general public: the "Israel Jerusalem" Museum, the "Bar David" Museum, the Ben-Gurion Barracks, the "Old Yishuv" Museum, the "On the Seam" Museum, the Israeli Museum of Cartoons and Holon and more.
