While Mario Draghi prepares to fly to the States to reaffirm the historic friendship and the strong partnership between Rome and Washington, the pressure of the 'pacifist' front is growing in Italy, pushing for a negotiated solution to the Moscow-Kiev war and begins to express perplexity right on the position of NATO and the USA.

The premier, during the day, participates in the video conference of the G7 extended to the president of Ukraine, Zelensky, and here he highlights the need to "continue to support" Kiev, to "go ahead with the sixth package of sanctions against Russia" and, "at the same time", to make "every effort to help reach a ceasefire as soon as possible and to give new impetus to the negotiations".

Concern for the protracted conflict and condemnation of Russia's "unjustified aggression" is the theme of the meeting, in which the head of the government also talks about "those poor countries" that now "risk a food crisis" and that "the G7 must continue to help".

In short, the effort for peace is omnipresent but Italy's position matures in the framework of cooperation and interaction, because the key is unity, it is evident in government environments.

Among the parties, after more than two months of conflict, the discussion on what Rome can do to facilitate a negotiation process widens, also marking some differences with respect to the United States or the United Kingdom.

After the leader of the M5s Giuseppe Conte, who raised the issue of "posture" within NATO (our country "goes in tow or is it a partner and can make a contribution?"), Is the former minister of Graziano Delrio to say that "disarmament is the only logic".

In his opinion, the premier should tell Joe Biden that "Italy does its part, but wants to promote a security framework", without "delegating" it to the Atlantic alliance.

A position immediately endorsed by Matteo Salvini: "Biden lower the tone, enough war, Italy and Europe are mediators and bearers of peace".

In particular, the interview with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg ends in the spotlight in which he affirmed that "the illegal annexation of Crimea" by Moscow will never be accepted.

For Delrio, "the words spent by England or by those who think that peace consists in bending Putin show great irresponsibility".

Also from the Democratic Party, the former Speaker of the Chamber Laura Boldrini hopes for "more political commitment to get out of the war tunnel in Ukraine. It is not up to NATO to establish the negotiating conditions. No interference".

Further to the left, the leader of the LeU group in the Chamber Federico Fornaro argues that "NATO cannot replace European politics and institutions", "a long diplomatic journey" is needed.

To 'defend' Stoltenberg's utterances are, on the other hand, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Benedetto Della Vedova (Più Europa) and the secretary of the Democratic Party Enrico Letta, who points the finger at the "colossal work of disinformation" in progress, highlighting on Twitter a another passage of the interview: "It will be the government and the Ukrainian people who will decide in a sovereign way on a possible solution of peace".

For the leader of Action Carlo Calenda "Draghi together with Macron is the only leader who can say to the US and NATO 'do not flee forward'. The EU is born or not born here", his prediction.

The Undersecretary of Defense Giorgio Mulè (FI) if on the one hand thunders against Conte, who "raises the political escalation almost bringing it to the level of the government crisis", on the other opens to Salvini who "wondering what weapons are for, manifests doubts that from my point of view are legitimate ".

No hesitation, however, in the words of the president of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Vito Petrocelli, according to whom at this point "the only real political choice is to stop the dispatch of all weapons and take away the trust in Draghi".
