The financial investment in the second season of "Tehran" is considerable, but what about some credibility? | Israel today

The prestigious sale of the series to Apple TV has brought budgets at a different level, as has Glenn Close, and yet the Israeli series is dragging old problems for its second season.

In the dark or in daylight, in the corridors of a hospital, between alleys and the roofs of houses, about every quarter of an hour the characters in "Tehran" find themselves in a scene of chase.

This usually happens to them several times in an episode.

The heroes of the series always sit on the tail.

Whether it be the Revolutionary Guards, police, security guards, soldiers or drug dealers - who close on them until the business rolls into chasing cars or motorcycles at increased speed, fleeing on foot, turning carts and stalls in a bustling market, assimilating into the civilian population and disappearing with undercover agents.

Through frequent use of the chase technique, "Tehran" maintains a fast and tense pace, which should increase as the drama intensifies.

So apart from the spy games, on which the plot is based, "Tehran" takes the most recognizable and anxious motif in our tradition, the one on which the ancient heritage of the Jewish people was built, according to which we were and will be a persecuted people, who somehow somehow evade the terrible enemy.

As has been said, and the Jews had light and joy and Sasson was precious.

In a review published in the Guardian over the weekend, the author explained that "Tehran" is so intense that next to it "Homeland" is like the dormant sounds of a sleeping app.

And really, the golden chicken here, which sold for $ 30 million for Apple TV, seems to have risen in rank in the thriller it provides.

And it's not easy, because "Tehran" is back with a bag of expectations, after picking up the international Emmy last year and creating global interest.

The budget has been inflated almost fivefold, and the investment is popping up from every frame.

The season takes place two months after the first - when the Israeli institution is looking for a fix, the Iranians want to finish the job, and the story creeps in a British agent, played by the iconic actress Glenn Close - who helped not only market but also improve the cast's acting qualities.

The heroine Tamar Rabinian (Niv Sultan) is still stuck in Tehran, even though the entire Islamic Republic is following her.

Her favorite, the hacker Milad, is trying to rescue them from the country, while she ties their fate to an operation she initiated to overthrow the Revolutionary Guards commander, who appears to be the seasonal villain and terrorizes him by hanging spies on behalf of the Zionist entity.

The evil Haman from his debut season (Farz Kamali) is also still there - lame and disgruntled, chasing the Israeli institutionalist who repeatedly eludes.

Because a winning trick is not a substitute, certainly after bringing a win to my mother.

"Tehran" for its second season carries old problems: the characters always explain what is happening, what is supposed to happen and how they feel;

The plot is less credible than Vladimir Putin and the script is as perforated as the Iranian nuclear deal.

Although she is the number one wanted person in Iran, this will not prevent Tamar Rabinian from hiding herself only through covering her hair, calling Tehran to Israel on a regular iPhone and continuing to behave recklessly.

But why dwell on small things?

"Tehran" is more than an action series built on coincidences and a cold war between countries.

Its uniqueness is its preoccupation with the Israeli-Iranian conflict, with its easy-to-digest Western narrative producing international appeal.

As an action drama, "Tehran" does the job properly, which is impossible to say about its protagonist, Tamar, the most lustful and impulsive Mossad agent in the Middle East.
