The solution word »fetus« in the popular word guessing game »Wordle« has embarrassed the »New York Times« – because abortion rights are currently the subject of heated debates in the USA.
The newspaper, which bought the online game in January, said the word wasn't chosen on purpose.
"Some users today may have seen an outdated response that seems closely tied to a major recent news event," wrote games editor Everdeen Mason in a note on today's game in the New York Times, without the word to name "fetus" directly.
According to Mason, the game editors discovered last week that the word would be the solution.
The editors have tried to change this for as many users as possible - but because of the technology it can be difficult to adapt words that have already been uploaded.
»Wordle« had gained millions of fans in a short time.
The game consists of guessing a five-letter word in just six tries every day.
The debate over abortion rights in the United States resurfaced a week ago after a draft Supreme Court ruling on the subject became public.
Accordingly, the Supreme Court could replace the landmark judgment "Roe v.
Wade, which enshrined a nationwide right to abortion.
