The Olympic high jump champion Gianmarco Tamberi starts the new season with the "obsession" of the Eugene Outdoor World Championships in Oregon (USA) which will take place from 15 to 24 July.

In Ancona, the blue champion presented the intense calendar of competitions starting from the first stage of the Diamond League, on May 13 in Doha in Qatar, home of his rival / friend Mutaz Essa Barshim with whom he shared the ex-aequo Olympic gold. and with which he often hears, but also the Golden Gala on June 9 in Rome.

"Rome is certainly a beautiful stage to better prepare Eugene - Tamberi said at the press conference -, but it is not comparable. Eugene is an obsession. The more important the races, the more I can learn; the more pressure I have on him and him. higher stimuli the more in the race I can come up with something important.

Having Rome before Eugene is essential for me, I can't wait to get off the platform in Rome, to see the Olimpico with so many people.

We hope in a decent technical condition to be able to make good measurements already at the Golden Gala but it is obvious that at this moment Eugene is my biggest if not the only goal of the year ".

After the Doha match on May 13, Tamberi will be engaged in Birmingham on May 21, at the Trieste Internazionali on May 28 and then competing in Ostrava on May 31 before the appointment with the Golden Gala in Rome on June 9 and the Italian Championships. on June 25.

Then he will fly to the States for the Eugene World Cup in July.

On the threshold of 30 years, which will turn next June 1st, Tamberi begins the season with a new awareness and new stimuli after the Tokyo Gold which paid off for the injury that took Rio 2016 from him, and which changed the perspective.
