At the sight of a Lidl brochure, a customer's collar bursts.

He promptly shares his find on Facebook.

Kassel – The sight of supermarket shelves at Aldi, Lidl, Rewe and Co. has repeatedly gotten on the nerves of many customers in recent times.

Be it that suddenly horrendous prices for sunflower oil are being asked at the discounter or that more and more everyday groceries are becoming scarce at Aldi, Lidl and Co.

But what a customer now finds in the Lidl brochure seems to surprise even die-hard customers.

“Are cucumbers the new gold now?” asks the user in his Facebook post at Lidl.

Among other things, the prospectus shows juicy green "German farmer's gherkins" - at a steep price of 3.49 euros per 750 grams. "Seriously?" is all he writes about it.

Lidl brochure causes trouble: "Are cucumbers now the new gold?"

"Wow, that's what I call extreme.

Cucumbers 3.49 euros.

How on earth are you supposed to feed yourself and your children healthily at such prices?” asked a Facebook user.

Another user also spoke up furiously and commented with angry emojis: "They have a bang".

On the side of the brochure it is not clear what the asterisk behind the cucumber price means, but on the following pages it is noted: "Due to limited stocks, this article may already be sold out during the first day on sale".

This could mean that cucumbers, like so many other foods, are currently in short supply.

Elsewhere, customers are outraged that assistance dogs are no longer allowed in Lidl discounters.

Lidl customer in a rage because of the cucumber offer and warns of the next price increase

The Lidl customer, who is annoyed by the expensive gherkins, added more under his post and pointed out: "Dairy products are also 20% more expensive on average".

An expert recently predicted the same thing.

According to him, the current prices for milk and dairy products are "just the beginning".

But what is behind the high prices for cucumbers?

Other discounters and supermarkets seem to charge lower prices for cucumbers.

A user commented on how much the vegetables currently cost at the discounter Penny.

So let's hope this isn't just another everyday food that will soon be rare and expensive.
