A man was caught in an alleged shoplifting in a clothing store in Gelsenkirchen - and left his little son behind when he fled.
The shop detective observed the 41-year-old on Monday stealing several goods, the police said.
When the detective approached the suspect, he escaped on foot.
According to the police, those left behind were:
alleged stolen goods worth 380 euros
the suspect's seven-year-old son
Officials initially took the child into their care, it is said.
The boy then led the investigators to the common home address.
There the little one was handed over to his mother.
According to the information, the police officers determined the personal details of the fugitive father and filed a criminal complaint.
