Australian rock singer Nick Cave has announced the death of his son Jethro Lazenby.

"It is with great sadness that I confirm that my son Jethro has passed away," wrote the musician in a statement quoted by the British news agency PA, among others.

There was initially no further information about the circumstances of the death.

Cave asked for privacy.

Lazenby was 31 years old.

He is the son of Cave and his ex-partner Beau Lazenby, an Australian model.

Jethro also worked as a model, including for Versace and Balenciaga.

In the early years, Jethro had no contact with his father.

Cave once explained that he deeply regrets it, but now has a good relationship with Jethro.

In a 2012 interview, Lazenby said, "It didn't start out so well, all that crap with my dad, being in his shadow."

The Guardian reports that Lazenby was only released from prison over the weekend.

He had been convicted of attacking his mother.

He had previously consumed LSD.

Cave addressed the loss in the album »Ghosteen«.
