On the occasion of its sixtieth anniversary, the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Damascus University inaugurated today a scientific-engineering conference under the title (Sixty Years of Building and Giving), with the participation of a number of local and international academics and researchers, on the Al-Basel Coliseum in the faculty.
Over the course of two days, the participants in the conference will discuss eighty scientific research on a number of themes that focus on structural assessment, facility rehabilitation, the most prominent applications of information technology in civil engineering, recent trends in geotechnical engineering, building materials, development, sustainable management of water resources, environmental protection, rapid construction techniques, and the evolution of surveying engineering to geological.
In the speech of the sponsor of the conference, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban stressed the importance of holding the conference in the phase of reconstruction and construction, where engineering sciences, with all their specializations, will have an important and decisive role in it in order to build sustainable cities and viable facilities that meet the requirements of the modern era, stressing the necessity of Concerted efforts and integration between the various engineering workshops from ministries, unions, scientific, research and academic institutions to solve urgent problems and contribute to the development and reconstruction process.
The Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Dr. Muhammad Hajem Al-Wadi, pointed out in his speech that the faculty has taken upon itself, since its inception, the graduation of engineers capable of carrying out the tasks entrusted to them, equipped with scientific expertise and high skills, and they have proven their high efficiency in all fields of work inside and outside Syria, explaining that the faculty has emerged throughout its history more Of the twenty thousand male and female engineers who have contributed to building Syria during the past decades and are currently preparing for the reconstruction of what was destroyed by terrorism, stressing that the college continues its approach to preparing graduates with the same level, armed with modern skills and technologies.
In the speech of the former college deans, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Al-Munajjid spoke about the establishment of the College of Civil Engineering and his academic and teaching career there, considering it a rich experience whose motto was will and determination.
For his part, the head of the Syndicate of Engineers, Dr. Ghayath al-Qutini, indicated that Syrian engineers are constantly following the changes, developments and developments that the world is witnessing in the field of engineering science, and they invest them in their engineering specializations because they are the main and effective pillar in building successive civilizations and the main pillar in reconstruction, noting the creative cooperation that exists between the Syndicate of Engineers, universities and ministries To serve the development of engineering work in terms of using modern technologies and issuing new engineering codes.
The opening of the conference, which was accompanied by an exhibition of a number of college students’ projects, included the presentation of a documentary film on the history of the College of Civil Engineering, its laboratories, departments and scientific activities, and the honoring of a number of its former deans and retired professors in appreciation of their scientific and knowledge giving and their contribution to building generations over many years.
